The Situation

When couples approach their 65th birthdays, they are often blindsided by the sheer volume of solicitation. Their mailboxes overflow with glossy brochures, and their television screens are saturated with conflicting, high-pressure commercials.

This environment is intentionally confusing. Many of the couples I work with arrive at their first meeting feeling paralyzed and anxious—genuinely terrified that a single wrong choice will result in coverage gaps, unexpected out-of-pocket costs, or a lifetime of restricted healthcare access.

The Approach: From Confusion to Clarity

My role is to replace that anxiety with a clear, evidence-based strategy. I structure the Medicare transition into a deliberate three-meeting process:

  • Meeting 1: Discovery & Financial Realities We start by looking at your current household picture. If one or both of you are still working, we perform a side-by-side cost analysis: comparing the premiums of your employer-provided health insurance against the true cost of transitioning to Medicare. We look at the "hidden" costs—not just premiums, but potential IRMAA surcharges and the stark differences between Medicare Supplement (Medigap) and Medicare Advantage (MAPD) plans. We also address the missing pieces, such as how dental and vision coverage varies across these paths.

  • Meeting 2: The Deep Dive Once we have identified the right path for your health and financial goals, we move to the technical review. We analyze the specific Summaries of Benefits for your top options. My goal here is to ensure you fully understand your coverage before a single application is signed.

  • Meeting 3: Confident Enrollment Medicare enrollment is a high-stakes moment where errors can have long-term consequences. In our final meeting, we walk through the enrollment process together, ensuring everything is submitted correctly and that your coverage is secured exactly as we planned.

The Outcome

My clients come to me overwhelmed by options and leave with a tailored plan. By treating Medicare not just as a "choice of plan" but as an integral component of your broader retirement cash-flow strategy, we ensure you can enter your post-65 years with total confidence in your health coverage.
