Case Study: Health Insurance Consultation

The Situation: A couple came to me looking for health insurance options after experiencing a loss of coverage. They mentioned that their son had some "special needs" and had general questions about whether he could be added to their plan, or what would happen when he turns 26 and needs his own plan.

The Solution: It turned out the son had both Medicare and Medicaid, which was making things complicated. I was able to enroll him in a Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP). This plan features:

  • $0 monthly premiums

  • $0 copays

  • All of his current providers in-network

  • A free membership at his fitness club

  • An OTC (Over-the-Counter) benefit of up to $200+ per month for health and wellness products, including allergy medicine, pain relievers, first-aid supplies, and more

Summary: The success of this scenario came down to clients who were open, had time to talk, and kept an open mind. There are many health insurance options available that are not widely known, and sometimes the only way to find the right fit is to share all information—even if you don't think it is relevant.
