Short Term Care Insurance

Is Short-Term Care Insurance the Right Move for You?

Traditional Long-Term Care (LTC) insurance is often prohibitively expensive because it is built to cover extended stays of four years or more. However, the most immediate financial risk actually begins much sooner.

The Reality of Skilled Nursing:

  • Duration: Over 50% of people who receive skilled nursing services need them for less than one year.

  • Financial Impact: Nearly half of middle-income residents exhaust their financial assets within that first 12-month window.

  • The "Cliff": For those who survive the first year, the average total stay jumps to three years.

The Case for Short-Term Care (STC): Short-term care insurance is designed to address this critical first-year "gap." Because it focuses on a shorter benefit period, the premiums are significantly lower and the medical underwriting is often less stringent, making it much easier to qualify for than traditional LTC.

Why I Use This Coverage: I personally purchased the coverage through the above link to serve as a "bridge" for my own family. Even with an existing long-term care policy, I found that adding this short-term supplement was necessary to ensure our plan remained adequate in the face of rising costs and inflation.

While I offer short-term care plans through two other insurers, this is the only option currently available for instant online quotes. Based on a thorough cost-benefit analysis and a review of specific policy provisions, this is the provider I ultimately selected for my own personal coverage.
